Madness Beat The Bride

Don’t treat the bride kneeling at your feet

Feeling black and blue like an overworked upper cut side order of meat

Monkey see what monkey do looking up to you

Copy every move they worship you

Look at yourself self-respect

Dirt behind the ears

Gone is all your sense of pride

Has run off with your tears

Don’t beat the bride ride the wave

Face the tide and when the penny got tight

Take take off

Ride the wave face the tide

And when the penny got tight

Pressure came down

Pressure came down

You’re always hurting the one you love

And when they’re dead and gone

The hurting gets even worse

So when tension rears its ugly head

Look the other way and stay just one step ahead

Don’t beat the bride ride the wave

Face the tide and when the penny got tight

Take take off

Ride the wave face the tide

And when the penny got tight

Pressure came down

Pressure came down

The way it’s always been

Pressure came down on the breadwinner

Pressure came down on the collector

Pressure came down on the bush doctor

Pressure came down on the governor

Pressure came down on old beat Pete

Pressure came down on the man on the street

Pressure came down for us to meet

But we turned and ran away

Don’t beat the bride ride the wave

Face the tide and when the penny got tight

Take take off

Ride the wave face the tide

And when the penny got tight

Pressure came down

Pressure came down

Madness Gabriel’s Horn

Hate is a word that I hate

I’ve made a mistake

The temple is having a sale

How can we fail

Love is a woman I need

Life moves

Man can you tell me please

What was your face

What was your face

What was your face before you were born?

I will say that there’s blood on my hands

I’m a man I’m a man I’m a man

I will ask my God to forgive

If I can if I can if I can

I will go with the way that is soft

Give you all that I have got

Keep you close to my heart

Not let anything tear us apart

I need to look into your soul

No matter what you say

Now don’t turn away

Last time I was with you

I felt we were miles apart

Don’t be angry with me baby

I’ll be sorry when you’re gone

Listen up I know it’s crazy

I’ve tried to be as honest as I can

I hope I didn’t get it all wrong

I’ll be naked in the flame

I have no mind to hide my shame

Move me close and kiss me quick

Hold my hand I’m feeling sick

Is this wall up between us for life?

You could die on the inside

To never be heard of again

It’s too late on your last breath

Hate is a word that I hate

I’ve made a mistake

The temple is having a sale

Gabriel come down

Gabriel come down

Gabriel come down from above

Last time I was with you

I felt we were miles apart

Madness Mr. Apples

A devout and well respected man

Woe betide you if you wander from God’s plan

Square shouldered, straight as a die

The righteous truth, he never tell you no lies

But when that old sun go down

He’s heading off up the wrong side of town

Eyes sparkle in the red light glow

Trouser pockets he’s ready to go

Ooooooooooooh

Calm down, Mr. Apples

You’re gonna do yourself in

Tell us where you’ve been

Head of the table at the Rotary club

Never unsure of which shoulders he should rub

Scout leader, a pillar of the Church, Capital Punishment

He wants to bring back the birch (of course, he does)

Cause when that old sun go down

Heading off under the wrong side of town

Eyes sparkle in the red light glow

Trouser pockets he’s ready to go

Ooooooooooooh

Calm down, Mr. Apples

You’re gonna do, you’re gonna do yourself in

Oh tell us where you’ve been

And ooooooooooooh

Calm down, Mr. Apples

You’re gonna wear yourself out

And what’s it all about

Eyes sparkle in the red light glow

Trouser pockets he’s ready to go

Ooooooooooooh

Calm down, Mr. Apples

You’re gonna do, you’re gonna do yourself in

Oh tell us where you’ve been

Ooooooooooooh

Calm down, Mr. Apples

You’re gonna wear yourself out

And what’s it all about

Ooooooooooooh

What’s it all about

Ooooooooooooh

What’s it all about

You’re gonna wear yourself out

You’re gonna wear yourself out

Madness Circus Freaks

Baby, we are living a life that most could only dream of

And baby, look at the debris of what we have become

Oh can’t anybody help us?

Why should anybody care?

I’m so taken in by you

I would follow you oohh to the other side

Our connections are sugar sweet

So strap up, take it all in your stride

Oh can’t anybody help us?

Why should anybody care?

Cut throats are going in for the kill

Bumbling flashes snapping at our heels

We may appear like circus freaks

Juggling with all we have able

But at the end of the day our cards upon the table

Nothing left concealed

Oh, all will be revealed

Baby, we are living a life that most could only imagine

Imagine all the people

And baby, look at the debris of what we have become

Clear all this clutter from the front room dear

Give me a little whistle when the coast is clear

‘Cause, we may appear like circus freaks

Balancing upon a tight rope

To a dumb struck helpless crowd

Willing us on, hope against hope

We may appear like circus freaks

Death defying antics down a dead end street

Desperate to avoid the tabloid

Soiled to the souls of our feet

We may appear like circus freaks

Juggling with all we have able

But at the end of the day our cards upon the table

No more bets

No more bets

Madness I Chase The Devil

I’m gonna burn your soul into a black, lump of coal

Lucifer, Son of the Mourning, I’m gonna chase you out of Earth!

I’m gonna put on an iron shirt, and chase the devil out of Earth

I’m gonna put on an iron shirt, and chase Satan out of Earth

I’m gonna send him to outer space, to find another race

I’m gonna send him to outer space, to find another race

Cause

Satan is an evilous man

But he won’t mix it with this man

And if I catch him with a gun in his hand

I’m gonna chase him from the land

I’m gonna put on an iron shirt, and chase the devil out of Earth

I’m gonna put on an iron shirt, and chase Satan out of Earth

I’m gonna send him to outer space, to find another race

I’m gonna send him to outer space, to find another race

Cause

Satan is an evilous man

But he won’t mix it with this man

And if I catch him with a gun in his hand

I’m gonna punish him

I’m gonna send him from the land

I’m gonna send him to outer space, to find another race

I’m gonna send him to outer space, to find another race

Cause

Satan is an evilous man

But he won’t mix it with this man

And if I catch him with a gun in his hand

I’m gonna send him from the land

Satan is an evilous man

But he won’t mix it with this man

And if I catch him with a gun in his hand

I’m gonna send him from the land

Madness Pac-A-Mac

I wear my cap with pride

When swaying side to side

Indoors where it be crude

Too late to find me shrewd.

I never lay in doubt

When walking from about

At home where it be warm

You’re sound asleep unborn!

I’m a small chap

Walk tall chap

When it rains

Cats and dogs

From my pocket I pick a pac-a-mac.

Inside a rubber wall yelling

Screams echo, off the ceiling.

My love could penetrate

So I’ll leave you now prostrate.

My fag smoulders out and out

And odours waft there about

So I give my head a kip

My cap’s worn to a split.

I’m a small chap

Walk tall chap

When it rains

Cats and dogs

From my pocket I pick a pac-a-mac.

I wear my cap with pride

When swaying side to side

Indoors where I feel nude

Too late to find me shrewd.

I never lay in doubt

When walking from about

At home where it be warm

You’re sound asleep unborn!

I’m a small chap

Walk tall chap

When it rains

Cats and dogs

From my pocket I pick a pac-a-mac.

Madness Jennie

Every morning at the break of dawn

Sleeping deeply next to me

To every evening as the sun goes down

Together we stay together we’ll stay

Nobody else to bring you down

Nobody else to be around

This time you’re free

Nobody else to draw you away

Nobody else to take you away

This time just you and me

I’m so pleased that you waited for me

And I thought of you oh so much

It could fill an eternity

Her big sad eyes that stare

Nobody else going to bring you down

Nobody else to be around

This time you’re free

Where I come from

Nobody knows

And where I’m going

Everything goes

(We’ll meet again)

Nobody else to blow you away

Nobody else to take you away

This time just you and me

I’ve searched about everywhere

But I still can’t find her

Events that cease at my memory

I still can’t picture

Mother of Mercy, Sister of Mary

Please help me (to find her)

Is there something you should tell me

Please hear me (to find her)

Nobody else going to bring you down

Nobody else to be around

This time you’re free

Nobody else to blow you away

Nobody else to take you away

This time just you and me

Mother of Mercy, Sister of Mary

Please help me (to find her)

Is there something you should tell me

Please hear me (to find her)

Nobody else going to bring you down

Nobody else to be around

This time you’re free

Madness I Pronounce You

There’s a feeling in your stomach a light trembling at the knees

Not even knowing who the luck fellow might be

Bridesmaids are cleaning the court-house bell

Horse-driven carriages wait patiently in hell

Happiness has been arranged for some time in July

Invitations have been sent I’m so bitter I could cry

Congratulations flown in from a long-lost friend

For the big occasion regretting that he can’t attend

And as family tradition is busy making up your mind

Gallantly standing draped in his holy shroud

God’s representative mumbles to a tearful crowd

I now pronounce you

I now pronounce you

Mother father wake up you’ve overlooked one thing

The daughter you planned for for years

Won’t get to wear your ring

Instead she’ll be running off into the dark of night

Straight into hungry arms that long to hold her tight

And as family tradition is busy making up your mind

Gallantly standing draped in his holy shroud

God’s representative mumbles to a tearful crowd

I now pronounce you

I now pronounce you

There’s a feeling deep inside of you a feeling that of ease

You’re the sweetest thing that could ever happen for me

Bridesmaids are cleaning the court-house bell

Horse-driven carriages wait patiently in hell

Gallantly standing draped in his holy shroud

God’s representative mumbles to a tearful crowd

I now pronounce you

I now pronounce you

Madness Decieves The Eye

In the earliest days of my shoplifting career

You could safely say I was filled with fear

It was nail biting work from the very start

But several quick successes soon gave me heart

After a while I could pick or nick with ease

Some shirts some trousers and a few LPs

No-one ever stopped me they didn’t seem to care

It sometimes seemed to me that there was no-one there.

Then a fine summers day my mates and me

Set off down the West End on our usual spree

Things were as normal for an hour or so

Then my nimble hands were a bit too slow

Two store detectives made a fast approach

One grabbed my jacket and said you’re nicked

The other grabbed my throat

So they caught me at last, one said with joy

You’ll have to do some time my light fingered boy

If only I’d remembered my common sense

They captured me red-handed with evidence

If I go to the manager and say I’m sorry

Maybe he’ll forgive me for my youthful folly

But what will me social worker say

If I don’t come home today

He’ll give me a clout

What if they don’t let me out

I told him I’m on me own

Don’t they understand

I’m from a broken home

I’ll tell them I’m the product of a broken home,

And I always went out on my own

Was it too late to say I’d pay

And I’ll never steal again ’till the end of my days

Because I have no friends to call as such

Money and possessions I did not have much

So I started to steal in order to get by

The quickness of the hand deceives the eye

Deceives the eye the eye the eye…

Madness Lovestruck

Staggering home the headlights throw a shadow up and upon

Friends and loved ones that have done no wrong

But no longer mean anything to me

Mumbling on into a crystal glass that echoes a song

The enticement invites you along

A path of exterior colour

But came the morning shivering and contorting

To border on the brink for just another sink

Oh take me down for one more round Oh involve me in libation

Stick a rock in my foundation soak me in stagnation

Tackle my translation and I’ll take you down

For one last round

Love struck I’ve fallen for a lamppost given her my utmost

Spilling out my deepest feelings

Now all I want to do is snuggle up to you

A night cap in the early morning dew

Look what have I become?

Distancing myself so far and front

But gazing up I wave the night boat on

For now its heaven in deepest Tottenham

What have I done to deserve this fate?

It’s all gone wrong

Even my cab fares been and gone

Now I’m lagging in deepest Tottenham
